3 Lessons I Have Learnt During My Internship

Internships are a great experience for students to learn and grow. Here are the 3 most important lessons I have learnt during my marketing internship.

My name is Danielle, and I am in my third year of an English and Marketing degree at Massey University and currently completing my Marketing Internship at Dubzz Digital Marketing.

I have learnt many lessons during this internship so far and I want to share 3 of the most important lessons that I have learned throughout my experience.

There is a lot to learn

Through my university experience, I have learnt a lot about the different aspects of traditional marketing and advertising. Digital marketing encompasses website design and development, social media management, Google and Facebook advertising, Search Engine Optimisation (SEO), copywriting, proofing, and so much more. From my experience with the Dubzz team I have been lucky to learn about each aspect of this huge field. I am excited to see how much more I can learn during the course of my internship.

Google is crucial for business

Google is the leading search engine and is how most consumers find information on a daily basis. Search engine rankings affect brand visibility and a higher ranking on Google can lead to a higher number of enquiries, increased brand awareness and increased profits. I have learnt how features such as Google My Business, website metadata and Google ads affect Google rankings. It has been invaluable to learn about how a business’s presence on Google has significant real-life business implications.

How you write is just as important as what you write

At Dubzz, I have been able to grow my writing skills through writing blog posts, social media posts and content for websites. As an English student, I have experience writing in various forms. However, it was not until this internship that I learnt that a successful piece of writing requires much more than well-written content. For example, when writing a blog post it is essential to consider the format and the readability of the post. Some examples include using headings for easy reading, writing metadata to increase SEO and limiting the word-count for people reading on a mobile screen. All of these aspects of writing are essential to creating great content for businesses.

At this point in my internship, I have already learnt so much about the Digital Marketing industry and myself. I am excited to see what the rest of my internship brings and continue to learn and grow from this experience. I am thankful for the team at Dubzz for being helpful, patient, and for giving me this fantastic opportunity.
