5 Ways to Grow Your Email List

By Matt Ennor | Wednesday, September 9, 2020

Building a large email database, is the key to success in email marketing.

Email marketing is one of the most powerful marketing tools available today, generating more conversions than many other marketing channels. Building a large email marketing audience is key to tapping into this digital marketing phenomenon – but how do you do it? Lucky for you, we’ve done the hard work and put together some of the best ways to grow your email list. Implementing these five simple tips can help you to increase your online audience, customer base and revenue!

1. Make Some of Your Content Gated

Gated content is a great way to obtain potential customers’ information while offering them ‘privileged’ information. Users will need to submit details such as their name and email address, which you are then free to add to your mailing list. In return, they’ll be able to access useful online content such as an offer or article. However, it is important to consider the content you are gating, and its relevance to your audience. You need to be sure that people will want it enough to give you their email address, so think carefully before implementing this strategy!

2. Use Facebook Ads

Facebook advertising is a great tool for driving traffic to specific webpages on your site. There are several ways Facebook ads can be used to build and grow your email list. Using a website traffic ad can drive users to the opt-in landing page on your website. Alternatively, you can keep the user within Facebook by using a lead generation ad. This objective allows you to serve forms to a highly targeted audience. Users can provide their name, email address, and any other fields you require without even having to leave Facebook! Lead Generation ads are also fully customisable, making them ideal for a range of target audiences. You may want to encourage users to sign up to your mailing list, fill out a survey or even enter a competition.

3. Add a Sign Up Button to Your Facebook Page

Nothing drives user action better than a clear call-to-action. Adding a signup button to your Facebook page is simple to do and gives potential customers an easy way to opt-in to email marketing. Setting this up is as easy as logging in to your Facebook page and clicking the call-to-action button underneath your cover photo/video.

4. Add a Sign Up Button to Your Website

Following in the same vein as your Facebook page, adding a signup button to your website is an easy way to grow your database. It also shows great intent when website visitors opt-in to receive more information about your business, product or service. Positioning this button in a clear, non-intrusive place on your website will ensure users can sign up at their own will without being annoyed by it. The key to success is in the simplicity – make it as easy as possible for potential customers to input their details and hit Sign Up!

5. Take Advantage of Your Email Signature

This one is super simple – add a link to sign up to your newsletter in your email signature. This doesn’t have to be fancy, but it is recommended to highlight the text in some way to make it stand out from the rest. A good call-to-action such as ‘Request a Quote’ or ‘Sign Up for News & Advice’ will go a long way to generating leads and helping you grow your email list.

In summary, correctly leveraging the opportunities available to help grow your email list is key in ensuring the success of your email marketing campaigns.
