Evaluating Your 2024 Hashtag Strategy

By Rachel McRae | Sunday, June 16, 2024

Learn how to use hashtags to help maximise your content visibility while maintaining value.

Did you know as of 2024 social media posts with at least one hashtag receive 12.6% more engagement on average than those without? Hashtags have emerged as powerful tools for boosting online visibility and engagement. At Dubzz, we recognise the value of using hashtags and advocate for a strategic approach tailored to your content and goals. This blog will outline the most important considerations when creating social media content with hashtags.

Hashtags can amplify your message across social media platforms, reaching users beyond your followers. On Instagram, where 70% of posts go unseen in 2024, using hashtags significantly improves visibility. However, they can detract from your content’s impact if not used thoughtfully. That’s why we emphasise the importance of a curated hashtag strategy, focusing on 3-5 relevant hashtags per post to maximise reach while maintaining message clarity.

When selecting hashtags for your content, ensure the words or phrases align with your brand, message, and goals. Avoid generic hashtags like #fun, #business, or #coffee, as they offer little value and can dilute your content’s visibility amidst a sea of similar posts.

Moreover, packing your content with an excessive number of hashtags is counterproductive. Just because Instagram allows you to use up to 30 hashtags per post doesn’t mean you should. Using more than 5 hashtags can dilute your reach, reduce engagement and harm perceived business credibility among followers by making your posts appear spammy. Our recommendation is simple: prioritise quality over quantity when using hashtags.
