How to manage your Social Media Presence while you’re away!

By Rachel McRae | Thursday, November 22, 2018

Don't want to worry about social media while you are away on holiday? These are our top tips on how to manage your social media while you are away from your business.

Summer is coming; the weather is warmer, the days are getting longer and you owe it to yourself to take some time off work, put your feet up, and relax.  During your holiday, don’t let down your online presence by neglecting your social media accounts

People are more active than ever on social media during their time off, and you don’t want to be forgotten or miss out on all the extra exposure available.  But there’s no need to worry!  You can have a holiday and keep your social media accounts alive at the same time. With a bit of strategy, you can take some time off without being glued to your desk all summer.

Choose Quality over Quantity:

Social media is fluid, but this doesn’t mean you have to be constantly posting content online. A single, well thought-out post can create far more engagement than 10 mediocre posts.

Schedule Posts:

This is an incredibly important technique and one that we at Dubzz employ every day! Unfortunately, Facebook is the only social media platform which currently allows you to do this from within the app, but it is incredibly handy.  When creating a new post as a Business Page, choose ‘Schedule’ from the drop-down menu, next to the ‘Publish’ button.  From there, you can choose the date and even the time when you would like to post.  For more instructions see – How do I Schedule a Facebook Post.

Use Visual Content:

It’s long been the case that posts with images are twice as likely to to encourage engagement than a post without. However, recent data has shown that posts with videos can get up to 60% more engagement than image posts! What does that mean for you? Don’t simply explain that you have great products, use video and imagery to tell a story! It is much more effective when your followers can see for themselves that you have a quality product or service, rather than simply being told.

Consider Timing:

Like the traffic on the highway, social media platforms also have peak traffic times. Make sure you are posting your content at the right time when it is going to be seen. Read our blog to discover the Best Times to Post on Social Media.

Hash Out #Hashtags:

Do not underestimate the power of a well-placed hashtag. Insert a ‘#’ before a word or phrase and you are categorising your post with every other post that has the same hashtag. Therefore, adding a popular hashtag or adding multiple hashtags to a post will automatically extend the reach of your content. It is worth noting that hashtags are most effective on Instagram, Twitter and LinkedIn. While hashtags can be used on Facebook, they do not have the same level of influence.

Link Accounts:

Posting duplicate content over different social media platforms is not a technique that we encourage all the time, but when done occasionally, it can produce double the engagement in half the time. You can link Facebook to Twitter so that every Facebook post will also get posted on Twitter. This saves a lot of time but just remember to keep your messages within the character limits so posts are not truncated half way.

On Instagram, you get built-in options to share your image or video over Facebook, Twitter, or Tumblr when you publish your post. Double posting using Instagram is much more accepted and works very well. Just don’t forget your #hashtags!

Go Mobile:

Smartphones and mobile devices make managing social media on the move a piece of cake. The techniques and tips mentioned above help when sharing content, but remember social media is a two-way conversation. You must also Respond, Share, Retweet and Like the user engagement on your Social Media accounts.  There are plenty of mobile apps that can be found in your device’s App Store including: Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Tumblr, Youtube, Pinterest and LinkedIn.

Facebook Pages Manager is an extremely useful app and is much more user-friendly than the regular Facebook Mobile App, as it is specifically designed to allow you to manage your Facebook Business page on-the-go.

There are plenty of tools you can use while you are away to ensure you are keeping in touch with your customers online. Alternatively, you can give your staff these tools, or contract a professional social media management company such as Dubzz Digital Marketing to handle your social media accounts while you are away.
