Jo shares what it was like to Dance with the Rotorua Stars
What a great experience it was taking part in this year’s Harcourts Dancing with the stars. It was four months of hard training put in by all dancers and our wonderful dance instructors Shelley, Troy and Glen. Well done Jan Morgan and the whole team at Rotorua Hospice for putting on such a fabulous event!
We all came a long way since we first met in Westbrook School hall in March this year. A group of 18 nervous soon to be dancers all met for the first time. After a few weeks of “Basic steps” the instructors decided who would be dancing with whom. We all stood in anticipation awaiting the outcome, fair to say we were all excited and nervous once we found out who we were with. A couple of weeks later we were joined by two more dancers from the public auditions.
With the first year being such a great success, the bar was set; we all knew we had to put in the hard work to put on a great show for everyone. Apart from dancing practice, we also took part in photoshoots for media and billboards which was great fun! The time flew by and Saturday, the 5th of August came faster than expected. The whole experience on the day was amazing – we got hair and makeup done together and just all hung out backstage having fun, some sleeping, some enjoying the yummy food provided, all with children and family were there to experience this with us. After four months together, you create strong friendships and bonds with all the other dancers , so to go through this together was amazing.
The reason we all did this was for Hospice and to raise money and build awareness around all the work that they do. Thank you Hospice. Also a big thank you to Harcourts Rotorua and all the sponsors of this event. Thank you all that purchased a ticket and experienced this night with us! We all supported Hospice!
