When we think of the internet the first thing that comes to mind is Google! However, the search engine giant offers so much more than just a platform for search. There are numerous tools available through Google that are hugely valuable to marketers and businesses to be able to run effective marketing campaigns. We have explored a few of our favourite Google marketing tools below that we think all businesses should take advantage of.

Google My Business

Google My Business (GMB) is one of our favourite Google marketing tools as it is completely free and let’s you manage how your business appears on Google Search and Google Maps.  It is one of the best ways to leverage local search and is essentially free ad space for your business on Google.

Every business owner needs to claim and verify their GMB listing. Once this process is completed you can then log into your listing and ensure all information displayed is up to date and add as much additional information as you can.  It is important to remember that anyone from the public can suggest an edit to your listing, so it’s important you regularly check that all information is correct.

Your GMB listing holds all of your Google customer reviews so it is important that you make time to respond to all reviews either positive or negative. GMB also provides valuable insights into how many searches you are appearing in and how many people are engaging with your listing.

Google Analytics

Google Analytics is probably one of the most powerful Google tools that you can use! It is a free website analytics product which gives you a deeper understanding of your website traffic. Google Analytics is easy and free to install on your website, all it takes is adding some code into your website header and you’re all set! It is designed to work with Google Ads and Google Search Console so you can get the best from these tools.

Google Analytics and Google Search Console seem similar, but Search Console provides more internal information about your website, you will get the most out of both platforms by linking the two accounts.

If you have made significant changes to your website and you want these to be recognised in search results as soon as possible you need to resubmit your site to Google.  This can only be done through Search Console.

Google Alerts are particularly useful to help you manage and track your online reputation. Set up an alert to be notified by email every time you are mentioned online. You can choose alerts based on your business name, employee names or industry keywords. This will really help you keep on top of anything published online about your business so that you can share positive news stories, and on the other hand be aware of and respond to any negative mentions quickly.

Within Google Ads there are a range of options for online advertising, including Google Search Ads, Google Display Ads, Remarketing ads and YouTube and Gmail advertising placements.
